Spectrum Mobile Access Point
Informed users and gave them agency to enable or disable an advanced setting on the MySpectrum App by designing the copy and user interface.
The Challenge:
Create the copy to inform users about a feature that broadcasts extra broadband to their surrounding community to blanket WiFi coverage across their neighborhood.
Stakeholder objectives: Be honest and open about what the feature does while encouraging users to keep it enabled on their device.
Tool: Figma
Content Designers: Tom Quinn, Sierra Wren
Product Designer: Carlo Maldonado
Original Flow Designs
I was asked to just fill in the copy with this existing user-flow. Included Lauren Ipsum text and buttons to turn the service on/off.
Impact
Instead of just editing the copy, I thought about how the user experience could be better. This involved rethinking the UI and designing the page’s message. To create these screens, I looked at Amazon’s Sidewalk to better understand the language and design users are used to seeing in this space. Finally, I advocated for renaming the feature to better represent its purpose.
UI Design
Advocated for toggle with microcopy message that informed users of a brief drop in coverage when the setting is enabled. The toggle display makes it clearer that the feature is automatically enabled.
Right-aligned paragraph layout for copy that informed users about the feature. Right-aligned copy is easier to read than center.
Content Design
Changed CTA from "FAQs" to "Learn More" to better represent the CTA’s landing page.
Wrote copy on the setting landing page and road block to encourage users to keep the feature enabled while informing them about its functionality.
